The operational problem
Giving customers more time to order required transportation arrangements that could still deliver the next day. I worked on two initiatives with that objective: LOCO in Chicagoland and a separate cutoff extension for the Minneapolis–St. Paul (Twin Cities) MSA.
My contribution
My work connected the later-cutoff objective with carrier capabilities and DC operations, from developing possible solutions through implementation and performance monitoring.
LOCO: later ordering in Chicagoland
Late Order Cutoff (LOCO) was a large enterprise-wide initiative intended to win market share in Chicagoland by allowing customers to place most orders until 8 p.m. and still receive next-day service. The project was sponsored by the GLT and presented to the Board of Directors, with partners including Marketing and Corporate Analytics.
I led the transportation work, partnering with FedEx to determine which destination ZIP codes could receive next-day service with a late-night pull. I then separated that volume into a new package group, created the necessary system tickets, and provided instructions to the DC on how to sort it throughout the day.
I monitored performance and provided updates on project drumbeat calls, keeping the broader team informed about the transportation work.
- FedEx: next-day ZIP coverage with a late-night pull
- Package group, system tickets, and DC sorting instructions
- Performance monitoring and drumbeat updates
Twin Cities: 4.5 more hours to order
For the Minneapolis–St. Paul MSA, I explored possible solutions with Transportation Strategy and helped select the linehaul carrier to support a later order cutoff while retaining next-day service.
I worked with ILDC leadership to put the new lane into operation, then monitored its performance. I also co-presented the project at a Transportation Town Hall.

- Help select the linehaul carrier and implement with ILDC
- Monitor the new lane’s performance
The delivered change
The LOCO work established the transportation process to support the 8 p.m. ordering goal in eligible Chicagoland ZIP codes, with a dedicated package group, DC sorting instructions, and a late-night pull. The Twin Cities work extended order cut times by 4.5 hours while retaining next-day service.
